Integrated in the suburban belt of Angra do Heroísmo, it was curated by the parish of São Pedro de Angra until the parish was elevated by charter of King D. João VI, dated September 6, 1825, although only its municipal organs were delimited by permit of the Civil Government of Angra of November 26, 1835.
It is the main stage of the books Archipelago, A Vida no Campo and A Vida no Campo: Os Anos da Matur, by Joel Neto, renowned author of our present day, which is inspired by the people and culture of this wonderful parish.
